Whether you’re having a maternity, newborn, or family photo session with me in Orange County, there are a few essential items to bring to ensure that everything goes smoothly and your photos turn out perfectly. As your photographer, I’ll do everything in my power to ensure that your memory-making photo shoot is exactly what you’re hoping for, but you can do a few things to help make certain that you and your loved ones are photo-ready, no matter what comes up.
1. A Change of Clothes
This isn’t just for your spill-specialist toddlers, but for everyone in the session. A lot can happen in a day of preparation, and, as we all know from experience, things often go wrong at exactly the worst moment. Be prepared for spilled coffee, newborns growing out of an outfit, or kids getting grass stains on their knees just before the camera comes out.
Again, this isn’t just for the little ones – adults can really use a pick-me-up too when it’s time to shine! I know I always get a little grumpy if I’m hungry, so bring snacks for yourself, your kids, and anyone else who’s coming to the session. A rumbling belly is a great way to get a laugh, but you’ll all feel better with a fresh burst of energy for your photos.
3. A Little Something Special
If you have some special item that you’d like to include in the photos, bring it along. Items like a hand-made blanket, a favorite toy, or a pair of tiny shoes can really add a personal touch to a photo session with kids. Family mementos like an heirloom guitar or an ancestor’s jewelry can be a fantastic way to add an even more unique aspect to your family’s photographs.
After lots of sessions working with babies and children, I know how tough it can be to get a child smiling and happy, especially when a stranger with a camera is hanging out nearby. Bring a few things that will help your child feel comfortable, happy, and ready to light up the camera with their smiles – things like toys, stuffed animals, or a comforting blanket are great choices.
5. Example Photos
If there’s a particular pose or background or even just the feel of an image that would really be your ideal for your own session, that’s great! Everyone is inspired by something different, and if you know exactly how you want your photos to look, why not share that with me? I will do all I can to make sure your photos look just how you want them.
No matter the photo session, a little preparation can go a long way. With just a few items in hand, your session can be smooth, fun, and filled with lasting memories for you to enjoy for years to come.
